DemeFORCE

UHMWPE (FR) — Non-Absorbable Surgical Suture

Suture Material

What is UHMWPE (DemeFORCE)?

DemeTECH DemeFORCE UHMWPE Suture is a nonabsorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), or a polyblend of UHMWPE and polyester. It is prepared from fibers of high-molecular weight, long-chain linear polyethylene having recurrent aromatic rings as an integral component.

The White/Green sutures with or without attached needles meet FDA requirements for exempt color additives for UHMWPE sutures. DemeFORCE UHMWPE Suture meets all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for Nonabsorbable Surgical Sutures.

Indicated for use in approximation and/or ligation of soft tissues, including use of allograft tissue for orthopedic surgeries. Note: not approved in Europe for use on the heart or with the central circulatory and central nervous systems.

How It Works

Actions in Tissue

Understanding how DemeFORCE UHMWPE behaves once placed in the body

DemeFORCE UHMWPE Suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. Unlike absorbable sutures, DemeFORCE is not absorbed by the body.

No significant change in tensile strength retention is known to occur in vivo — providing permanent, reliable wound support throughout the patient's lifetime where required.

01

Minimal Tissue Reaction

A minimal acute inflammatory reaction occurs in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue — a controlled, low-reactivity response.

02

Permanent Strength Retention

DemeFORCE is not absorbed, nor is any significant change in tensile strength retention known to occur in vivo — delivering consistent, lasting wound support.

03

Fibrous Encapsulation

Gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue provides stable integration within the surrounding tissue over time.

Characteristics

DemeFORCE™ Quality Standards

DemeTech's UHMWPE sutures are engineered for permanent strength retention and minimal tissue reactivity

DemeTECH DemeFORCE UHMWPE Suture is a nonabsorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), or a polyblend of UHMWPE and polyester. It elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues and is not absorbed — with no significant change in tensile strength known to occur in vivo. Available in White/Green from sizes 7 through 2-0, meeting all USP requirements for Nonabsorbable Surgical Sutures and FDA requirements for exempt color additives.

1

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene

Composed of UHMWPE or a polyblend of UHMWPE and polyester — prepared from fibers of high-molecular weight, long-chain linear polyethylene for exceptional strength and durability.

2

Permanent Tensile Strength

Not absorbed in vivo, with no significant change in tensile strength retention — delivering consistent, permanent wound support across the full lifetime of the suture.

3

Minimal Tissue Reactivity

Elicits only a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual fibrous encapsulation — supporting a stable, low-reactivity tissue environment.

4

White & Green Colours

Available in White/Green, meeting FDA requirements for exempt color additives for UHMWPE sutures. Supplied with or without attached needles in various straight and curved types.

5

USP & FDA Compliant

Meets all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for Nonabsorbable Surgical Sutures. Available in sizes 7 through 2-0, supplied sterile in pre-cut lengths.

6

Orthopedic & Soft Tissue Use

Indicated for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissues, including use of allograft tissue for orthopedic surgeries — where a permanent, high-strength suture is required.

Usage

Indications

  • Do not resterilize. Discard open, unused sutures.
  • As with any foreign body, prolonged contact with salt solutions such as those found in the urinary or biliary tracts may result in calculus formation.
  • Users should be familiar with surgical procedures and techniques involving nonabsorbable sutures before employing DemeFORCE UHMWPE for wound closure, as risk of wound dehiscence may vary with the site of application and the suture material used.
  • Acceptable surgical practice must be followed with respect to drainage and closure of infected or contaminated wounds.
  • Do not reuse. The reuse of single-use devices can cause cross contamination and affect the device safety, performance and effectiveness, exposing patients and staff to unnecessary risk.
  • This product is not approved in Europe to be used on the heart or with the central circulatory and central nervous systems.
  • Store below 25°C, kept away from direct heat and moisture. Carefully observe the expiration date.
Safety

Precautions

  • In handling this or any other suture material, care should be taken to avoid damage from handling. Avoid crushing or crimping damage due to application of surgical instruments such as forceps or needle holders.
  • Adequate knot security requires the accepted surgical technique of flat, square ties, with additional throws as warranted by surgical circumstance and the experience of the surgeon.
  • The use of additional throws may be particularly appropriate when knotting monofilaments.
  • Discard used needles in "sharps" containers.
  • Contraindication: This product is not to be used in the central circulatory and central nervous systems.
  • Adverse effects associated with the use of this device include: wound dehiscence, calculi formation in urinary and biliary tracts when prolonged contact with salt solutions occurs, enhanced bacterial infectivity, minimal acute inflammatory tissue reaction, pain, edema, and erythema at the wound site.
